There are a few rules. You must write your wishes down on paper – no computers. Write more than one wish but no more than ten. More than ten scatters the energy. They can be wishes about different subjects or rewording around one subject. You cannot make wishes for other people. You can make wishes to adjust your thinking or your approach toward others. Wording is important. Trust your intuition. You may have to repeat a wish at each new moon if you have deep resistance to that wish. Date and keep your wish list. Wait for the magic to happen.

new moon
There is a New Moon today in the sign of Leo. It occurred around 3 pm pacific time. The new moon is a moment when the old passes away and the new is not yet here. It is a perfect time to set intentions for things you’d like to create or cultivate. The time is magical. Make your wishes within the first eight hours of the new moon and give it up to Spirit to make your dreams come true.

don't fly away
Hummingbirds - everywhere I go. Flying hummingbirds, eating hummingbirds, resting hummingbirds - I'm surrounded by hummingbirds. I'm not complaining. I love their little colorful bodies. Just suddenly, hummingbirds everywhere.
If you have hummingbirds in your life, their symbolic meaning is joy and playfulness as well as adaptability. If they show up in your life it may remind you to enjoy life's simple pleasures and take time to enjoy yourself. Some other meanings include: being more present; independence; lifting up negativity; ability to respond quickly; and resiliency.

new moon
There is a New Moon today in the sign of Gemini occurring around 8 pm pacific time. The new moon is a moment when the old passes away and the new is not yet here. It is a perfect time to set intentions for things you’d like to create or cultivate. The time is magical. Make your wishes within the first eight hours of the new moon and give it up to Spirit to make your dreams come true.

The sign of Gemini rules motion/activity, learning, communication skills, logic/cleverness, social ease, positive daily interactions, and calming mental anxiety. You can write wishes about any subject, but wishing about Gemini issues is especially potent during this new moon.

transformation
I've been seeing butterflies lately. Not just any butterfly, but black butterflies. The other day, Miss J and I were walking and a black butterfly flew right in our faces. Everywhere I go, black butterflies. I'm not seeing any others, just black.
I know Nature has her own rhythms and black butterflies may be hatching or migrating right now. I also know the Universe is vast and wondrous and Spirit always takes care.
I've mentioned in previous posts that doors have been closing for me. I have been worried and frustrated. While nothing has changed that I can see - no new openings - yet, I am seeing black butterflies. Too many to disregard. So I researched the symbolic meaning of the black butterfly...

The butterfly symbolizes new life from an old one.
The black butterfly symbolizes a new strong but subtle life
after a period of transformation -
a sign of positive change in the present situation.
Thank you, Spirit.

energy healer
I have an energy healer. Her name is Joyce Arnowitz. She is an amazing woman, intuit, and facilitator. I directly credit her for opening me enough to the Universe to allow me to become pregnant with my precious J. I had frequent sessions with her when I lived in the Bay Area. I see her much less frequently since I've moved to this little town so far away. I miss her. I miss our sessions. And, lately, I really have been feeling like I need to see her.
Her office is a magical place filled with art, flowers, and spiritual tokens. I took these photos with my iPhone last year - which was the last time I saw her.

9 breaths
The last few days, I have been feeling extremely scattered. I can't concentrate, everything I touch I either drop or knock over. I am short-tempered and fearful. I'd like to blame it all on the solar flares (!) and, in part, I probably can. When I feel this way, I need to ground and bring myself back in energetic balance.
Mostly to remind myself, I thought I'd post the method I use to ground. There are many ways. This is just a combination of what I have learned and what works for me. Maybe it will work for you, too.
Side note: You can do this in three breaths and even one breath, once you get used to the procedure. I have found, if you have the time, 9 breaths works really, really well.

Grounding, Filling with Light, and Centering in 9 Breaths
-Find a quiet, comfortable spot.
-Choose a comfortable seat with back support.
-Place your feet firmly on the ground/floor. Feel the solidity of the Earth under your feet.
-Place your hands palm down on your thighs.
-Close your eyes.
-Take a few deep, cleansing breaths.
-When breathing, inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth with a soft “Ha” sound, slightly lifting the corners of your mouth as you breathe out.
Grounding
-Shift your awareness to the base of your spine.
Breath 1: On the exhale, imagine a thick, central grounding cord extending from the base of your spine into the center of the earth.
-Return your awareness to the base of your spine.
Breath 2: On the exhale, send two cords down your legs and out the bottoms of your feet into the center of the earth.
-Breath 3 is actually 5 or so breaths called “bellows breath.” Bellows breath – breathe in through the nose and exhale with a short, heavy “Ha.”
Breath 3: Using bellows breaths, on each exhale draw the Earth energy into your body through the two cords you sent down through your feet. Bring the red, hot Earth energy up through your feet and ankles, then into your calves, then knees, then thighs, then to the base of the spine where they meet the central grounding cord. Allow the energy to fill your body. Feel the energy warm and relax you, filling every cell of your body.
-Take a moment to recognize how your body feels. THIS is what it feels like to be grounded.
Filling with Light
-Shift your awareness to your abdomen.
-Imagine a golden sun about 10 inches above your head. This is your source of Solar energy. Feel its warmth and light.
Breath 4: On the exhale, gently drip this golden light in through the top of your head and down your spine. Imagine it spreading through your body and filling every cell with Divine Light.
Breath 5: On the exhale, bring the light in through the top of your head. Imagine the golden light is gently filling your heart until the light overflows your heart and fills every cell of your body with your own loving energy.
Breath 6: Breathe the light in again through the top of your head into your heart. Let it overflow your heart and your entire body until you are surrounded by a golden oval shaped energy field – in front of you, behind you, above you, and below you.
Centering
-Keeping your awareness in your abdomen, imagine a blue flame about 15 inches above your head.
Breath 7: On the exhale, bring the flame down the front of your body, under your feet, and up your back to meet back at the top of your head.
Breath 8: On the exhale, bring the flame down the side of your body, under your feet, and up your other side, meeting at the top of your head.
Breath 9: On the exhale, bring the flame down around you in a spiral so that your golden oval shaped energy field is surrounded, without any gaps or holes in your protective layer.
-Sit and experience the sense of being grounded to the Earth and surrounded by your protective blue flame. When you are ready, move around gently and go on with your day.
-Throughout the day, keep your awareness in your abdomen, in your center. If you find it shifting, take a breath and bring it back to center.

laughter
Laughter is the key! Listen to the laughter of the Little Ones; as they laugh, the stars radiate with joy. For their laughter is joy and hope for the new light shining on planet Earth - the planet of free choice, the planet of laughter. Are not our children too serious? What about the elders? Are they not teaching the Little Ones by their examples? Laugh with this, and understand that the Little Ones need to, as well. Their hearts demand it. The stars demand it. The universe demands it. Laughter is necessary for the planet to continue to vibrate with love, joy, and peace. Laugh with the Little Ones!

spirit horse
In the lexicon of symbols, horses usually mean healing. I've always believed if horses are healers, white horses are super healers. There was a very special white horse in my life - actually she was a flea-bitten grey, but that's close enough for me. She wasn't my horse, but one of my sister's three horses. Her name was Witaka. She passed away a few years ago from malignant tumors all over her fair skin. I believe Witaka was a healer, but not so powerful a healer that she knew how to get rid of all she absorbed from the people around her and the tumors were the result. Whether I am right or wrong really doesn't matter. What matters is how lucky I was to know her and how much she brought to my life. She had a troubled life. Not in terms of being cared for, she was greatly loved and my sister is an excellent horsewoman. She just didn't seem comfortable in her horse body and horse life. I always felt a special affinity with her. Maybe because I've never felt completely comfortable in my human body or human life.
The photo of Witaka's eye began my photography career. It is the photo that first touched my soul. It was the first photo of mine that was more than just a photo. I have sold more of her photos than all others combined. Her photos are always the ones that people are first drawn to. She still speaks, still heals.
I've posted this photo before, but as far as I'm concerned it can never be seen too often. This is the photo that is the loadstone of all my photos that have come since...
Thank you, beautiful Witaka. I miss your presence. You will always live in my heart.

peace, or something like it
My precious J loves going to church. It doesn't matter what church, any church will do. It started with my mother. Whenever she visits she attends Sunday mass at the Catholic church on the corner. Last year, J asked to start going with her. She also attends her Dad's and other grandmother's community church on their weekends. And now, she expects to go to the Catholic church with me whether my mother is visiting or not. This is neither here nor there. I fully support her curiosity and journey. All this is just to explain why I was at church last Sunday.
At one point in the gospel, Jesus asked two of his soon-to-be apostles what it was they wanted. During his sermon, the priest asked the congregation what each of us would answer if Jesus asked us the same question. Immediately, peace popped into my mind. No hesitation. No question. But...then I thought is that what I truly want? I always say I am seeking peace, yet my life is full of drama and quite often I am right in the middle of it. I could lead a very peaceful life if I truly led a spiritual life far removed from my current life - like a lama, or a devotee. Curiously, when I was a teenager this now very New Agey spiritualist was a devout Catholic intent on becoming a nun. Yes, me, a nun! Luckily, before I entered that path, I was graced with the wisdom to know I was not becoming a nun out of love for or devotion to God, but rather to escape life. Repeatedly in my life, I have tried to escape only to realize I really wanted to live this life. I'm positive it is my journey to live it. So do I really want peace? Is peace just a knee-jerk reaction for me to questions of this sort. Isn't this a question one should answer before they set a course? Until I can answer the question, how do I know which path to follow? Do I have any idea what I really want? Is it just me or do any of us know the answer to that question? Really?

inspired by...
...Ana of Live & Enliven. Her post today was a series of absolutely beautiful horse photos. It reminded me of how much I love those animal beings and of the significant impact they have had on my life - both physical and spiritual. Get ready for a post HEAVY on photos - on my favorite photos.
btw...do yourself a favor and read Ana's blog. When I "discovered" it through another blog a couple of months ago, I spent the entire night reading every post - well, almost every one...I couldn't quite finish. I will someday though. Read it. The light of her soul shines through every post.

with love update
When Henny and Lucy of utterly engaged and Lydia from ever ours first conceived of a fundraiser for shelterbox to aid those in need affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and a blogger day of silence to raise awareness of the situation, they had no idea how successful their efforts would be. On her blog, Lydia wrote "what started off as "i hope we get 50 bloggers involved" and "i hope we do raise $5,500" turned into something far beyond what i had ever imagined." Over 1200 bloggers from around the world joined in the blogger day of silence. And, as of 11:30 pm on March 20, $53,940 had been raised, with 11 more days yet to go to raise even more.
Blessings to Lydia and utterly engaged for thinking of and organizing the fundraiser. And may the money raised and the energy of love fly to Japan on the wings of angels.

...till the cat lady sings
While searching for information on the web about the earthquake and tsunami that has devastated Japan, I came across an article about Japan's "Cat Island" - officially known as Tashirojima, or Tashiro Island. Cat Island is home to 70 - 100 human residents (depending on the source), all but one over 60 years old and over 100 feline residents. The island has become a tourist mecca for both cat lovers and the curious.
It is unknown at this time the fate of the residents - human and feline - of the island. Communication is cut off, but it's hoped that most, if not all, were able to make it to the higher ground on the island.

Wishing Light, Hope, and Recovery to all the people and animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami and wishing Peace to our precious traumatized Earth.

52 and calling
There once was a whale...
There is a baleen whale roaming the North Pacific all alone. She (or he) sings her whale song at a higher frequency (52 Hz) than the other whales (15-25 Hz), so high that no one responds to it - possibly the other whales don't even hear it. So she travels alone, calling to others, and no one responds. Can you imagine?
The whale's song was first heard in 1992 by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Researchers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution have been tracking her for the last two decades. To add to her problems, not only does she not communicate at a frequency that her own respond to, she does not travel regular migration paths. It has been hypothesized that she is either a hybrid, a mutation, from two other species, or perhaps the last of an unknown species. No one knows for sure.
The story was written in a 2004 NY Times article and resurfaced recently when a novelist shared it on a podcast and the whale's sad story has been traveling the blog world since. I first read it on This is Glamorous!
I have two thoughts - submitted humbly...First, is technology not advanced enough that some kind of device could be rigged so that her song could be heard by other whales? Second, could animal communicators help this situation? I have a third thought...if there is a gift in everything we encounter and experience, what is the lesson here? What is this precious whale trying to show us - collectively and individually?
Everything I've read seems to be pretty much the same thing just rewritten, but for more information try here, here, or here.

what shall we call this day
A day of ups and downs and all arounds.
As I am writing this, J is fussing and fuming and whining because "I can't get comfortable." Oh, but you have to hear her tone. Aaaagh. And, of course, what comes next is how its all my fault, etc etc etc. Did I mention she spent the last three days with her dad and grandmother? She's just an overtired little girl.
This morning I slept till 11:30(!!!). I'd had a rough night - both physically and emotionally. Not sure which was worse. I feel like I'm going through a cleansing. When I went out back this morning to feed Graycee, the wind was blowing and building. It lifted my arms like wings. I could hear the birds calling to me to fly. I could feel Mother Earth holding me, anchoring me, grounding me. I heard the chants of the ancients, of the grandmothers, channeling through me. I felt connected, empowered and clear. I asked for J's guides and angels - no manipulation - to protect her from evil and help her see the truth. I asked my guides to show me the solutions to either keeping this home or finding another better, the solutions to my financial challenges, to ground me in self-love and self-respect. This or better - for my highest good, for J's highest good, for the highest good of all, and for the highest good of the Universe. Ho. Aho. So be it.
I have been seeing signs all day - probably missing most. I'm not sure what they all add up to.
I have a portable fire pit in the backyard that I bought quite a while ago with the intention of using it when bb was here during winter quarters. I have never had a chance to use it. Made of terra cotta, it is supposed to be protected from extreme elements and water. To protect it I took apart the box it came in and laid the cardboard pieces over it. There are five or six layers of carboard heavy with water atop the pit. We have had fierce storms and other than the top piece slipping, the pit has remained covered. This morning all the cardboard was off the fire pit. All of it. Spread along side of it. I didn't have my usual raccoon visitors last night so I can't blame them. What does it mean?
As I was staring at the uncovered fire pit, I noticed the rambling rose by the fence was suddenly almost to the fire pit. Suddenly, because it wasn't even near the patio two days ago. What does it mean?
As J and I were driving through town, five white doves suddenly flew up and away. White doves. What does it mean?
Both Graycee and White Fluffy Love escaped their confines today. Graycee from the cat-fenced back yard (he's FIV+ so must be kept from other cats) and WFL from the house. What does it mean?
The wind was joined by rain this afternoon, the skies are stormy, the almond trees are blossoming, the birds and the squirrels are active, the cats are fighting with each other...something is brewing...
In other news, Valentine's Day sucked. I was sick and couldn't be at J's Kindergarten party or even with J all day. She stayed with her dad. They went out to dinner while I sat here sick and hungry because there was no food in the house. Very early Monday morning - like at 3am - I drove into town and then walked around my neighborhood here putting red roses under car wipers and at doors of friends and neighbors. Anonymously. I was sick. Wandering around in the cold didn't help make me better. Oh, and how I don't want to admit this...I put a rose under the wiper of a certain someone who hasn't treated me very nicely and I have supposedly let go of. Yes, T. Well, friends, I make my own misery. I'm certain he knew it was from me and no, I haven't heard from him. I guess that pretty much says it all. If your "boyfriend" doesn't even acknowledge you on Valentine's Day - no matter what else might be going on in his life - it's pretty sure that not only is he not your "boyfriend," he doesn't care one thing about you or your feelings. Should that come as a surprise to me? No. So why am I a little surprised? Like I wrote, I make my own misery.
I hope those that received the roses felt thought of and special. That was my intention. Now, to be petty, that would be how I felt. Had a received flowers, or a card, or an email, or anything from anyone. Not one person wished me a Happy Valentine's Day! Oh, waagh. Poor me! I said it was petty... You have to believe you deserve attention to receive it...
It is official...the island is shut down for renovation. The beaches are closed. I have mined the bays.
drawn by J in early 2010
Oh, wait, the thing about not receiving any valentines is not actually true...J made me a card and a huge painting. How I love that girl. I couldn't dream of a better valentine than her. I am so blessed. I wish I didn't forget that so often.
Nevertheless, the island is still closed...

calling me
I long for a tipi. I want one for myself and to share with J and our friends. I have a friend who designed and built a ceremonial tipi - you can see it behind the paint horse in the photo in this post and the above photo is a detail of the interior. Until health problems prevented her from doing so, she held goddess celebrations in it on the full moon of each month. We drummed and passed the talking stick and held ritual, ending each gathering with the song Merry Meet. J asks me to sing the chorus every night before kissing her "sweet dreams."
May the circle be open but unbroken
May the love of Spirit be ever in our hearts
Merry meet and merry part
And merry meet again...
I don't know if I would hold ritual and celebration in it - although I suspect if I had a tipi, I wouldn't be able to keep it to myself! I want to look out my window and see it. I want to furnish it with native-inspired rugs and blankets and cozy chairs. I want to have morning tea in it - or rather morning coffee, since I really don't like tea. I try, but I just don't. I want to sleep in it and meditate in it and lounge in it and play in it and live in it.
Do I have a Native past life that makes this all seem so attractive and necessary? Or is it just the structure is so pure and beautiful? Or do I just want a tipi?
Blessed be...
