Miss J and I are already in the summer frame of mind even though she still has to finish this week of school. Instead of reading or going to her skating lesson, we cut out and went to the movies this afternoon. We saw Epic in 3d - cute story, absolutely beautiful animation, the bad guys were a little dark for both of us. The animation was breathtaking. The piece with the Queen's transport carried by dragonflies was awesome. I searched everywhere online to try to find a still of it, but couldn't. The animation alone is worth seeing the movie. The Queen - voiced by Beyonce Knowles - reminded me of Barbie. Maybe that's why I was so taken with her!

I went to see Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds this afternoon. Fathom Events ran the movie in theaters around the states. It has been years since I've seen it. It is terrifying and magnificent. Still. From the idea of birds turning on humans to the blonde perfection of Tippi Hedren. It did make me feel a little homesick - okay, a lot. Beginning in San Francisco then set in Bodega Bay which is just a stone's throw away from "home." How I miss the ocean. Anyway...in honor of the crow in the below publicity shot of Ms. Hedren, I've gathered a few favorite crow pictures.

I love Audrey. There isn't a movie she made that I haven't seen and loved. My favorite is Breakfast at Tiffanys. Although, I always get angry and cry when Holly Golightly throws the cat out of the taxi in the rain. It turns out well though and is still my fave. She was so much more than just a movie star - a truly remarkable woman.

tangled lanterns

J and I saw Tangled for the second time today. Tangled is Disney's version of the story of Rapunzel - with all the Disney classic touches like Barbie shaped women and movie star heroes and the requisite happy ending. Well, a happy ending for the hero and heroine, of course. The villians didn't fair so well. There is no forgiveness or redemption in the Disney kingdom.

J had wanted to see the movie from the first ad. And we went on opening day with two other girls joining us. She calls it Rapunzel. It's a sweet movie with beautiful animation. It was my first 3-d movie viewing experience. I have to say, with the exception of the clunky, uncomfortable glasses one must wear, it is quite an experience. It will never replace my love of a classic flat screen movie, but it does do something for a children's movie.

We went again today for something to do on a cold, rainy afternoon and because J loves the movie. Both times the same moment got to me - the release of the lanterns. I so wanted to be there. To be able to experience such a magical moment. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful and touching moment in the movie. I suppose I'm just a sappy romantic, nevertheless the moment brought tears to my eyes.
