This afternoon:

sound - Graycee's (the cat) purr as he lies curled in my lap with the background whistle of blue jays in the trees.
smell - the scent of newly mowed grass.
taste - the sweetness of dried cranberries and almonds from the snack I ate.
touch - the feel of the light breeze against my exposed skin.
sight - everything in the back yard. The waist high grass has finally been cut.

This afternoon:

sight - through the front door, the dogwood in glorious bloom in the front yard.
sound - in the back bedroom, Frankie (the cat) pouncing on and batting around a hair scrunchie like it was prey.
smell - the scent of chocolate from my daughter's piece of candy.
taste - the sweetness of dried cranberries and almonds from the snack I just ate.
touch - the feel of Rosie's (the cat) fur under my fingers as she lays napping in my lap.

It's not a new idea...taking a moment and noticing what is around you and within you. Just a moment to notice what you are sensing.

sight: J's drawing of a cat hanging on the wall above my computer.
sound: blue jays squawking in the backyard.
smell: water from the sprinkler on the front lawn.
taste: the lemon and lime flavor of diet 7-up.
touch: the soft fur of Giovanni as he rubs against my hand.

a can of diet 7-up because it was easier to get a photo of than the ever moving Giovanni...
