cat saturday

Spent Friday morning with a beautiful lady photographing her lovely animal family - three horses, a dog, and three cats. This cat has the most stunning eyes I have ever seen. Her name is Camo...

cat saturday

My cats have not only accepted the piano in their house, they have embraced it as their own. It is now covered in cat hair...

cat saturday

It's a very sad Saturday for me. My beloved Rose passed away today. Her poor little body couldn't fight the cancer that plagued her anymore. I've had many many cats - all with different personalities. Rose was by far the sweetest cat that ever graced my life.

Thank you for the past 13 years, my sweet. Thank you for your life and your death. Bless you on your way.

meet savannah

I've been busy lately. A little cat showed up across the street at the empty house next door to J's Dad. He didn't want anything to do with it and called me. It had a collar with a tag but was skittish around people. The cat had worked one paw through the collar and it was rubbing under her leg and across her neck. We guessed she was a she. She looked like a she. After a few days, I was able to get close enough to cut the collar off. Her name is Savannah.

I called the number listed on the name tag - a few times. Her former owner finally got back to me about a week later. He had had her for seven years but ran into hard times and gave her up to some friends to care for. He got in touch with them. They didn't care the cat was gone. The poor guy was in tears. He kept changing his mind about taking her back. Back and forth for days. Finally he decided he couldn't take her. That left me or the animal shelter. So, really, that left me. I really don't want another cat, but J is already attached and I can't abandon the cat too.

J and I brought her over to our house tonight. We're going to try to make her an indoor kitty. Right now, she's in the bathroom. We're letting the kitties get used to each other's smells and sounds. Tomorrow I'll let her into the attached bedroom. And the next day, they'll all be together. Wish us luck. Right now, little Savannah is not very happy. Poor kitty.

This is Rose. She is beautiful and sweet. She's made quite a few appearances on this blog. She's on now because she needs everyone's good thoughts and prayers. She's very ill. Please pray for her...

goodbye

My dear dear feline friend, Graycee, passed away this morning. He has been suffering and slowly declining for weeks. The vet couldn't seem to do anything to help. I couldn't do anything to help except give him lots of love and attention. He drew his last breaths this morning as I knelt beside him. Miss J and I buried him with food, a blue jay feather, and one of J's crystals from the mountains. He's resting under the oleander where he liked to bathe in the morning sun. We are greatly saddened by our loss. We will miss him so much.

Thank you for your life and death, precious Graycee. Bless you on your way.

cat saturday

Baby...the bird cat...who can jump from the ground and catch a bird mid-flight. (Don't worry. Whenever any of her people are around, they interfere with her success!)

kitty ups and downs

It's been a rough day for my extended cat family today. Precious Mitzi - one of Miss J's Dad's cats - died last night. She was 21 and ready to go. Still, it won't be the same going to their house and not hearing her loud scratchy meow begging for a caress.

My Graycee has been sick for about a week. He's not eating and has discomfort in the intestinal area. He's fiv+ so any illness is dangerous for him. Took him to the vet today. Four hundred dollars later, we'll find out tomorrow what's going on inside him.

Thank you for your life and death, dear one. Bless you on your way.

cat saturday

Graycee just showed up one day - and stayed. He's a neutered male, but he fights fiercely with every cat and sprays. He's totally loving with people. Soon after he arrived, we found out he is FIV+, so he lives in the big backyard surrounded by cat fencing to protect him and other cats. He's a great cat - full of love and personality. He's a joy to have around - unless you happen to be a cat!

cat saturday

This cat is on her ninth life. She has been given to/adopted by numerous people. Her current person was given her as a barn cat. She lived on the property for about a year, then disappeared - for over a year! The property is vast with few neighbors. No one knows where she disappeared to. She reappeared one morning, looking a little skinnier and older. She's been on the property ever since and suddenly the previously untouchable cat begs for attention.

mercury mercury

Mercury's in retrograde. It first crossed my mind earlier today when every - every - traffic signal between the grocery store in Chico and home was red for me. I thought, "it must be" when not one but two cars on the midway - speed limit 50 mph - were traveling at the lightening speed of 35. I knew it when every link in my saved posts section refused to load. I was reminded of it when blogger took 5 minutes to open. I'm going to turn off the computer and bury myself under a blanket...thanks for letting me vent...

Here's a picture of Tom - the neighbor's cat - with a look that perfectly matches my feelings right now...

BTW, Mercury is in retrograde until March 17th. If this post disappears somewhere into the blogosphere, I won't be surprised...

cat saturday & foto friday

Sorry! I missed foto friday. Here's a kitty photo available to download.

Going back to the root goal of my photography - having my photos available to those who want them, I've decided to make Fridays a sharing day. I will provide a different photo each Friday that you can download and print for your personal use. The photo is in pdf form. You will need Adobe Reader to open the file. You can download Reader for free here. I'm new to this downloading stuff and am using dropbox to facilitate the transfer. If you have any problems downloading the photo, please let me know.

besom

For the last couple of days, I've been preparing a post about needing to cry and the cat who always made me cry when I was holding it back. She's been dead for years and I haven't done the post yet because I've been trying to find a particular photo of her in my archives. Life has a way of interrupting plans. This morning I opened the front gate and found a dead cat lying in the path. It was one of the strays I have been trying to win over so I could get him neutered. He was a tiny silver and grey tabby. I called him Besom. I noticed about a week ago, he stopped coming around. When I went looking and found him, I could tell he was sick. I tried wooing him. I tried trapping him. But I just couldn't catch him. He died outside my door sometime last night. I'm so grateful he came to me at the last. I was finally able to touch him and stroke him. I gave him a burial in my backyard. I have no pictures of him. He would never get close enough. I will never forget him.

A feather, rock, and two hibiscus flowers
buried with Besom
along with a handful of food for the journey.
