I've opened a new shop on Society 6. I just have horse photos listed as of now. I'll be posting more over the next few days. I still have the Etsy shops as well. The online world is so vast, I needed to diversify. And I love the art on Society 6. They print and ship, so the prices are very reasonable. The art is top notch. They even print iPhone cases and tote bags and the like. Not for my photos - it's just not me - but great graphics and photos available.

This is a totally superficial post, but...I scored...twice. Friday, J and I went to Kohls to get a nightgown for Grandma Ruth for her birthday. A trip to the store for us never involves just getting what we are there for. J got a sleep shirt and I got a pair of shoes - gold, sparkly high heels. I first noticed them when they were 50-something dollars. Then, when they were in clearance. By last Friday, they had been marked down to $5.99. Yes! Score!

Today I stopped at Target to get a couple of tee shirts. While there, I checked out the clearance racks and wandered over to the shoes. Gorgeous heels I have been coveting on clearance for $11.99 - the last pair. And in my size. Score!

Now, where oh where will I ever wear them! I never dress up these days. Strictly jeans and tees for me. But if I ever have the occasion to, I have a couple great pairs of shoes! Maybe this means there will soon be an occasion. Hmmmm...

maddie on things

Have you seen Maddie? She's a rescued coonhound belonging to photographer Theron Humphrey. On a cross-country trip, after noticing her incredible patience and ability to balance, he started taking photos of her on things, in things, things on her. The photos are wonderful! He has a book called Maddie on Things.

retail therapy

A little out-of-sorts today - nothing important, just anxious, I embarked on what my niece calls "retail therapy." I've been looking for awhile for a couple of astrological inspired prints for J and me - one Scorpio, one Libra. I almost always dislike the artwork for both signs. Tonight I came across a couple of cards on Etsy with sweet designs - not too cutesy, just right. They're cards so the size is right and the price is right. I'll mat and frame them and they'll be perfect in our respective bedrooms.

I love ACEO/ATCs. Those 2.5x3.5 inch bits of art. I have dozens. Not only am I able to own art from artists that I couldn't otherwise afford, I am able to own wonderful art. And the small size touches the miniature lover in me.

The other morning as I was preparing an art lesson in collage at my daughter's kindergarten, one of the "moms" dropped off her daughter a little late. As the mom was leaving, I noticed the soles of her shoes - Louboutin red. I asked her if those were "loe-Ba-tins" - I'm such a hick. I've never actually known anyone who had a pair or heard the name. I've only seen it in print - mostly on blogs. She looked at me quizzically and then said, "Oh, you mean my "Lou-bi-tons." Love those Louboutins." I laughed out loud at myself. Then mentioned that they cost as much as two months rent for me. She said, "Oh! Don't make me feel bad." As she got into her Maserati and headed for their estate...

To be fair, this "mom" has become a good friend and is one of the nicest people you would ever meet. She is also a stunningly beautiful blonde and I envy everything about her. But in a nice way! Funny thing. The day before I was helping the kindergarten teacher with a scrapbook project and she just happened to mention that she didn't think she had seen this "mom's" daughter in the same outfit twice throughout the school year! We're a rural, agricultural community. There are a few people with money - mostly the large agricultural interests, one of which this "mom" married into. No other family in J's kindergarten or the other two classes come close to their wealth. I think most of us are at least a little envious.

I checked on-line. The shoes she was wearing probably cost between $800 and $1000. I LOVE shoes, but I don't think I could ever spend that much on something that I'm going to walk in the dirt with. Not when I could get 10 or more fabulous pairs of shoes for the price of one pair of Louboutins! Ooooh! I am green with envy!!!

Given money no object, guilt no concern, extreme pain not an issue...this is a pretty pair of Louboutins I wouldn't mind having...

My sister is nine years older than I am. She was my idol. In many ways, she had more influence over me than our mother did. We shared a bedroom and a bed. Everything she loved, I loved - art and horses, especially. Unfortunately, in our family there was room for only one of each kind of child. My brother was the mechanical genius and recluse. My sister was horse-crazy and a natural born artist - the popular one. I was the "baby" - specifically the "cry baby." But that is all another story...

I was a lonely and constantly alone child. I relied on books and my imagination for company and pleasure. One of my favorite pasttimes was playing with my sister's Breyer horses. My favorite was the rearing appaloosa. I had one horse - a little white pony. I still have her. Sadly, White Fluffy Love knocked her off the windowsill and broke her leg. Luckily, she's not real and her leg can be mended with glue. She will be with me for the rest of my life.

While browsing a new-to-me blog - Live and Enliven - I came across a link to a beautiful etsy shop that sells vintage goods. Look what I found...

spring is in the air...

...can summer be far behind...

This body of mine does not wear bathing suits. When I swim, I wear a t-shirt over a swim suit - always. Precious, perfect J on the other hand loves swimsuits as much as she loves shoes - that's a lot. Love that girl! And, since I can't buy swimsuits for me, I buy them for her. We don't have a pool, but our neighbor does, and another neighbor does, and we go swimming at the public pool nearly every day during the summer. We are both counting the days until the water is warm enough to swim. Until then, I've been perusing kids' swimsuits. So fun!

On the last day of January, I came across a tipi for kitties (this post). Of course, I bought it...

It arrived in a few days. J and I put it together. And, precious little girl that she is, J had to give it a try herself. She tried to climb in, got only her head in, and decided to try it out as a hat.

Giovanni and Rosie each gave it a sniff, but neither were overly impressed. Although, given a little time and without the presence of the other cats, I think Rosie would have ended up loving it.

White Fluffy Love took to it immediately. She runs in and out of it, runs around inside it, pokes her paws through the opening in the top, and naps in it.

Joy was next to check it out. She decided it was pretty cool.

Unfortunately, when White Fluffy Love realized Joy had taken over her space, she - ummmm- evicted Joy.

The tipi is pretty much White Fluffy Love's domain. Joy, however, often takes a nap in it when WFL isn't paying attention. No one pushes Joy around!
